It ran from Llanfihangel (later renamed Llandre) station on the Cambrian Railways via the village of Talybont and the valley of the Afon Leri into the foothills of Plynlimon Fawr.

It was built to serve the lead mines at Bwlch Glas and stone quarries around Hafan and opened. The Plynlimon and Hafan Tramway was also known as The Hafan and Talybont Railway. Books Author: E.A. Wade. The prototype Victoria was the first locomotive (one of two) owned by the Plynlimon & Hafan Tramway, a little known railway in the Leri Valley of Wales.

The 7+-mile-long, 2'-3"-gauge line was opened in and closed just two years later when the lead mining business didn't pan out (although it did become lucrative some years later).

The locomotive was purchased by the Vale of Rheidol Railway when the Plynlimon and Hafan Tramway closed after only three years of operation. The diagram of "Talybont" was drawn by the late Ted Wade, and his 1 to 36 scale model of "Talybont" is in the museum collection together with models of "Victoria" and the only passenger coach.
