A first coincident measurement of the pion induced pion production reaction cross-section on a complex nucleus (A > 2) has been successfully performed. In particular, the reaction ¹⁶O(π⁺,π⁺,π⁻) was measured at MeV incident pion energy. The only previous published measures of this reaction on nuclei consisted of a dated measurement done on emulsion nuclei [BBD*69] and did not. The quark model was independently proposed by physicists Murray Gell-Mann (pictured) and George Zweig in The proposal came shortly after Gell-Mann's formulation of a particle classification system known as the Eightfold Way—or, in more technical terms, SU(3) flavor symmetry. Physicist Yuval Ne'eman had independently developed a scheme similar to the Eightfold Way in the same year.

Extract from Bill Fox's Departmental History the differential cross-section for p-p elastic scattering at MeV was measured at 30 angles between 13 and 90 deg (c. m.) with an absolute precision of to % over most of the angular range, the results being included in a phase-shift analysis of all the then available 50 MeV p-p.

Both OdE/dx and OEMC are good discrimination variables to separate electrons from pions above GeV/c. OTOF can separate e/π quite effectively below GeV/c. The neural network trained with OdE/dx, OTOF and OEMC, shown in Figure (d), offers a nearly uniform acceptance and background contamination between GeV/c and GeV/c. ħc 5 = ⋅ J = ⋅ GeV 4G ħc 3 = kg m/s = ⋅ GeV/c 4G (33) These elementary-particle limits are the (corrected) Planck mass, Planck energy and Planck momentum. They were discussed in by Andrei Sakharov, though with different numerical factors. They are regularly cited in elementary particle theory.
